New Accompanist Needed

The Dalkeith Singers are seeking a new accompanist and rehearsal pianist to commence in September 2016.

The Dalkeith Singers is a large mixed choir for Dalkeith and the surrounding district and has around 60-70 regular members. Attracting members from across Midlothian, the choir sings a broad range of sacred, secular and light music: recent and upcoming projects include premieres of works by new Scottish composers, a collaboration with a choir from the USA, and the choir’s first performance of the Mozart Requiem in its entirety. The choir also occasionally undertakes tours and regularly supports local charities.

The new accompanist would play a key role in the ongoing musical development of the Dalkeith Singers. Liaising with our Musical Director, Cole Bendall, (s)he will:

– accompany our weekly Thursday rehearsals (7.30-9.30pm, St Nicholas Buccleuch Church, Dalkeith)

– accompany the choir in concerts (usually two per year: Christmas, Spring possibly an additional summer concert)

– on occasion, accompany sectional rehearsals outside the usual weekly rehearsal times and come and sing events.

(S)he will have excellent piano skills and be a strong sight reader. (S)he will, ideally, have experience as an accompanist, particularly working with singers or choirs. (S)he may also have experience as an organist or conductor. Above all, (s)he will have a good sense of musicianship and will complement the enthusiasm of the Dalkeith Singers.

Renumeration is available for this post (with details available on request) and is reviewed annually.

Interested applicants should send a CV and cover letter to Natalie Harmsworth, Secretary of The Dalkeith Singers, at info@dalkeithsingers.org.uk. Informal queries may also be directed to this address.

Closing date for applications: 5pm on Saturday 30 April 2016.

Please note that an audition session with the Dalkeith Singers has been planned for the evening of Thursday 12 May and successful candidates will be expected to attend on that date.
